Portland Community College, in conjunction with a bioscience consortium that includes Genetech, HemCon, Welch Allyn and Precision Wire, is offering a 10-week, 13-credit-hour training program.

The Bioscience Technology certificate of completion will train people in skills specific to industry hiring needs for entry-level operator positions. Genentech, the San Francisco-based pharmaceuticals development and manufacturing company, will open its new plant in Hillsboro in late 2008 and will be seeking trained and qualified workers. A limited number of scholarships, funded by the partner bioscience companies, will be available for qualifying students.

To be eligible for the training, which starts this fall, prospective students must attend one of the following orientations: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursdays, July 10, 17, 24 or 31, Room 1508, Washington Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. The fall training will take place at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road, for the Bioscience Technician Certificate. Work authorization documents will be verified.
