Regional academic peace group to host symposium at PCC

Photos and Story by

The regional Peace and Conflict Studies Consortium – which includes leaders from Portland Community College, Portland State University and George Fox University, among other institutions – is hosting an academic symposium at PCC on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Michael Sonnleitner (left), who teaches peace and conflict studies courses at PCC, listens to graduate students from Portland State University at last year's regional peace consortium.

The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in rooms 112-122, Terrell Hall, Cascade Campus. It will include educators involved with peace studies from throughout Oregon and southwest Washington. Topics to be addressed include research in the field, academic programs currently in existence, the development of academic programs, and planning for the future.

The symposium is open to all students, staff and faculty who can attend whatever portion of the event works with their schedules. Attendees should plan to bring a sack lunch or grab a bite over the noon hour at one of many nearby restaurants. Donations to the consortium – a non-profit organization – can be accepted.

To RSVP or to get more information, contact either Michael Sonnleitner at msonnlei@pcc.edu or Kate Chester at kate.chester@pcc.edu and (971) 722-8233.
