Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” opens Friday, March 8 in the Sylvania Campus Performing Arts Center. This hilarious classic put on by Sylvania’s Theater Arts Program is by the British master of farce has been pleasing audiences around the world for nearly 75 years, but the humor never gets old.

A recently remarried Charles calls a madcap psychic, Madame Arcati, to his lovely home for a mock séance. While hilarity ensues, his dead wife Elvira’s spirit is mistakenly brought back to the world of the living, vexing Charles, but more so, his current wife Ruth. Stuck in a highly unusual love triangle, the three begin to tear the home apart in ways seen and unseen, until a twisted ending brings a resolution only a ticket-buying theatergoer will be able to appreciate.

The production plays out starting at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, March 8-9 and 15-16. There will be two matinees at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 17 and a “Pay what you wish” matinee at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 14 with curtain closing by 1 p.m., perfect for classes.

“I’ll add that the design for this production is sumptuous,” said Patrick Tangredi, Theater Arts director. “Please, encourage your students to support their fellows, as the production is cast entirely of students, including our highly talented crew. Directed by Julie Akers, designed by Ashley Smith, Dan Hays and assisted by numerous students, this is a play you’ll leave laughing and remember for years to come.”

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors, students and staff, and $5 for groups of 12 or more.

For tickets, call (971) 722-4949.

Hi! Is it suitable for a 12 yr old child? And will they understand the story line or could it be confusing? British humor, so unpredictable…:)

@Sandra, the play is directed by Julie Akers and features the following cast:
Charles…. Chet C Wilson
Ruth……. Lauren Darm
Elvira….. Brittany Hanson
Mme. Arcati Bradly Sosinski
Edith…… Tara Miller
Dr. Bradman Michael McRae

Cook……. Ian Hale

@Suzanne, it is perfectly suitable for children of any age and I think that it will entertain a 12 yr old quite well. The humor is mixed well between dry wit and madcap farce.
