People can bring in dogs of all sizes between 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 for a wash and dry. The recommended donation is $5 for small, $10 for medium and $15 for large dogs. All breeds welcome. Dogs should be social, like to be bathed and not be aggressive toward humans or other dogs. Students will help the dogs get acclimated to the water and then wash and massage the tail, legs, neck and body. After a thorough rinse, they’ll be toweled off or blow-dried. The service not only benefits the customer and their dog, but serves as a key training event for PCC students.

“Students can’t wait to apply what they’ve learned in class,” said Dolores Galindo, instructional support technician for the program.

The funds that are raised from the doggie wash help pay for the students legacy project, which typically takes the form of an equipment purchase to benefit their program, or assisting in community service projects for animal non-profits. For example, the class of 2010 used the money they raised to buy 10 dog beds for the animals the Vet Tech Program houses at its kennel over at the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. Last year, students purchased a bathing system to make it easier and more efficient to wash the dogs at that facility.

“Typically they are things that need to be purchased because our program budget only goes so far,” Galindo added.
