Portland Water Bureau lifts boil water notice; tap water safe to drink

Photos and Story by

As of 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, the Portland Water Bureau has lifted its boil water notice, and tap water is safe to drink for residents within the city. Follow-up testing of drinking water has shown the absence of bacterial contamination; it is recommended that all taps are flushed for up to five minutes to ensure flushing out any potentially contaminated water from plumbing.

The bureau issued a boil water notice on Friday, May 23, when it detected E-coli in three tests of the city’s water in as many days. The region affected included PCC sites located within the city’s watershed – Sylvania, Rock Creek and Cascade Campuses and center/locations within Portland such as the Downtown Center, Southeast Center and the CLIMB Center.
