PCC to start collegiate-level men’s, women’s soccer teams this fall

Come August, Portland Community College will proudly add soccer to its offerings in the Northwest Athletic Conference.

“We’re moving beyond basketball with the addition of men’s and women’s PCC soccer teams to the NWAC,” said Dick Magruder, PCC’s athletic director. “After years of planning to make collegiate soccer a reality at the college, we are ecstatic that this day has finally arrived.”

PCC anticipates having both teams assembled by Aug. 1, to be ready for the official launch of the season on Aug. 15. Four rounds of tryouts – three for the men’s team and one for the women’s team – have taken place this spring, and one more round for the women’s team is scheduled this month.

For students interested in joining the women’s team, final tryouts will take place Saturday, April 18 at the Hillsboro Stadium from noon to 4 p.m.

Once the teams have been selected, practices will take place at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus (17705 NW Springville Road), from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday .

For additional information on the upcoming tryouts, contact Magruder at Richard.magruder@pcc.edu, or at (971) 722-5513.

I am currently at Western Oregon University. I plan to transfer to PCC this summer and for the next academic year. I missed tryouts. What can I do?
