PCC’s Public Safety officers attend major law enforcement training in Columbia County

Last week, Portland Community College sent five Public Safety officers to a five-day, 40-hour crisis intervention team training in Columbia County. The officers skills were tested in specially designed scenarios so they can identify, communicate and assist people suffering a mental health crisis.derrickfoxworth-copy

“This is the exact training that police and sheriff departments provide to their members,” said PCC Public Safety Director Derrick Foxworth. “This training provides officers with enhanced skills should they come across someone experiencing a mental crisis.”

Participating PCC officers were Kyle Clark, Todd Johnson, James Moir, Carissa Rudnick and Tom Semph.
