The event took place April 20 at the TAO Event Center in northeast Portland and was supported by Portland Community College, whose Advancement department and Cascade Campus partnered to purchase a table. Each year the event honors elders in the Asian community, recognizes community volunteers, and awards scholarships to youth. As the Asian Reporter Foundation’s signature event, the annual banquet strives to share, educate and celebrate Asian culture and heritage.

One of the scholars spotlighted this year was Phuong Nguyen, who was awarded $2,500 by the Oregon Lottery. Currently a student at Portland State University, Nguyen had studied at PCC and remains an active volunteer with the college’s Vietnamese Club.
