It was snowing and seven degrees below zero, but for a handful of Portland Community College students headed to the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) in Chicago, it was all good. Seven students from Rock Creek Campus – Mayra Salazar, Jennifer Werekeitzen, Irene Ramirez, Adriana Serrato, Jazbel Diaz, Casandra Garcia and Lidia Limon – spent part of a week in mid-February in the Windy City learning about community engagement, leadership skills, careers in the sciences, corporate America and the implications and responsibilities of becoming leaders for the 21st century.
