"Creating Connections" Highlights Distance Education Role
Photos and Story by Susan Hereford
The Oregon Community College Distance Education Consortium will sponsor a workshop, "Creating Connections: Linking Students and Faculty Using Technology." The event will take place at the Portland Community College Sylvania Campus on Friday, Nov. 1.
Roger Bassett, Governor Kitzhaber’s policy advisor on education, will be the keynote speaker. He is expected to discuss how distance education is changing traditional teaching methods by circumventing the barriers of time and place. In this way, distance education bridges the gap between citizens and the education they need. Planned breakout sessions will include on-line curriculum development, the art of web development, and interactive television teaching.
PCC Distance Education Coordinator Loraine Schmitt can give more information. Her phone number is 977-4481.
