Soar Like a Bird, Crash, then Do it Again!

ALOHA — Wind is a slippery critter, but not impossible to catch. Let Brody McMann teach you everything about the art of catching the wind in Stunt Kite Flying, a one-evening in-class ground school on Tuesday, April 22 plus two Saturday field trips to the beach.
You’ll learn the basics of set-up, launching, landing, wind windows, and basic tricks. You’ll even get to visit the World Kite Museum in Long Beach, Wash. Bring your own kite or rent one.
Tuition is $45. Classes will be held at the Capital Center – Portland Community College Washington County Workforce Training Center, Room 1567, 18624 S.W. Walker Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. For additional information, call PCC at 614-2707.
Make ’em Green with Gardening Envy
ALOHA — Get ready to cultivate a greener spring with the informative Home Gardening Series sure to make you the envy of the neighborhood, on Tuesday evenings beginning April 1 at the Capital Center – Portland Community College Washington County Workforce Training Center.
Rod Smith of Seven Dees’ Nursery will pour his years of professional expertise into answering your landscape dilemmas in practical, effective ways. Sign up for the series ($40 tuition) or for individual classes ($10 each).
The weekly topics are:
April 1 — Landscaping — Develop an individualized plan for your yard. Learn about plants, combinations, maintenance and what is best for your needs.
April 8 — Pruning — Learn what, where, when, and how to cut plantings for the best results.
April 15 — Rose Care — Care for your precious roses in the correct way – planting, pruning, and spraying. Learn about new and old varieties.
April 22 — Edible Crops — Get tips on planting a successful vegetable garden as well as fruit trees that will yield your favorites.
April 29 — Annuals and Perennials — Students will make their own moss baskets. Class will meet at the Seven Dees’ Cedar Hills location.
May 6 — Insects and Disease — Don’t be put off by the name. Discover safe and easy ways to rid your garden of insects and disease.
May 13 — Lawn Care — Learn how to keep your lawn in top form year round. Discover how to properly tackle problem areas.
May 20 — Irrigation — Learn how to install a home drip watering system in your yard. Use water efficiently and conservatively.
