Coastal Kayaking for Beginners
Photos and Story by Mark Evertz
PORTLAND — Water sports can be intimidating. But now you can combine beautiful coastal bays and safely learning basic skills in Flat Water Kayaking, your choice of three one-day programs on Sundays, July 13 or Aug.10, or Saturday, Sept. 13.
Great for beginners! Learn about paddling strokes, use of paddles, hand positioning, balance, turning, safety — all while experiencing the natural beauty of Oregon’s coastal bays. Extremely safe, fun and great exercise. All equipment provided in the $70 per one-day program cost. Take your pick of three scenic bays: July 13, Netarts Bay; Aug. 20, Nestucca Bay; and Sept. 13, Nehalem Bay.
For each program, meet at the Wilson High School parking lot, 1151 Southwest Vermont, near the tennis courts at 8:30 a.m. Wear comfortable clothes that can get wet, bring a bag lunch and water and get ready for fun! For more information, call Portland Community College at 731-6622.
