LAKE OSWEGO — Summer’s here and the time is right to. . . Get Away with PCC in one of their many intriguing get-away study programs this summer. Yes, you can combine travel, study and group interaction to maximize learning and enjoyment in a wonderful variety of activities. Here’s a sampling:

June 27-29 — Archaeology of the Northwest — Information night, June 19 at 7 p.m., Lake Oswego Adult Center, 505 G Ave. — Spend a long weekend led by archaeologist Alison Stenger at a Willamette Valley site excavating a late ice age mammal. Examine soils, screen for ancient remnants, record findings and more. Participants can either stay in a motel near the site or commute from Portland. Offered in cooperation with the Institute for Archaeological Studies. Cost: $66.

July 10-13 — Shakespeare in Ashland — Information night, June 12 at 7 p.m., Lake Oswego High School, Room 3, 2501 S.W. Country Club Road — Enjoy Shakespeare in the Siskiyous at Southern Oregon State University. The program includes performances of "As You Like It," "King Lear," and "Timon of Athens," as well as lectures with actors, a stage tour and accommodations for three nights. Led by Cecilia Barry. Cost: $174.

July 26-27 — White Water Kayaking Weekend — Information night, July 17 at 8 p.m., Lake Oswego Adult Center, 505 G Ave. — Paddle the beautiful McKenzie and Santiam Rivers in river kayaks. All kayak equipment is included in the cost of the program, but you’ll camp using your own gear overnight Saturday. Completion of a previous white water kayak class and a half-day river trip on the Clackamas River (all available this summer) are required. Call 731-6622 for a detailed list of kayaking classes. Led by Dave Wright. Cost: $139.

Aug. 2-3 — Smith Rocks Climbing Weekend — Information night, July 24 at 7:30 p.m., Lake Oswego Adult Center, 505 G Ave. — Take the mind/body challenge at beautiful Smith Rocks! Camp overnight on Saturday using your own camping gear. Cost includes all climbing equipment, no additional fees. Students must have taken Intro to Rock Climbing (available Sundays, June 29 to July 20) to be eligible and safe for this trip. Led by Dave Wright. Cost: $106.

All info nights are mandatory. Get Away with Portland Community College program participants must drop at least one week prior to the first class to obtain a refund (since accommodations are planned, equipment is rented and tickets must be purchased).
