Portland Community College Announces Scholarship Opportunities in Microelectronics Technology

BEAVERTON — Academic scholarships are available for Washington County residents who are interested in pursuing a career as a technician in the semiconductor industry.
The Microelectronics Technology program has 20 full-ride scholarships available for the 1998 fall term. A scholarship will pay for tuition, books and fees for one year. The scholarship is renewable for one additional year.
In order to receive a scholarship, applicants will need to meet the following requirements: be a Washington County resident; be prepared for entry into the Microelectronics Technology program which means that students be ready to take Math 95 and Writing 121. This requirement can be demonstrated either through classes already taken at PCC, taking the college’s placement test, called ASSET, or through an official transcript from another accredited institution. Students also must be prepared to maintain full-time student status, earning credits that count toward a Microelectronics Technology degree. Once in the program, students are required to maintain a C in each graded class.
The program will accept qualified students on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning July 15. Applications can be dropped off at the program office, PCC Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road, Room 1506, or postmarked beginning July 15, and mailed to PCC, Microelectronics Technology Department, P.O. Box 19000, Portland, OR 97280-0990
