PCC Students Shine in "Guys & Dolls" in Mid-May

Photos and Story by

Portland Community College students are set to dazzle you this spring when they tackle the classic musical comedy, "Guys and Dolls," in six performances in May at the PCC Sylvania Campus Performing Arts Center.

More than 30 PCC actors and 20 technical students share in the musical production that is set against the color of New York City’s highlights and low life.

Sue Parks Hilden, PCC theater arts instructor, will direct, while PCC Theater Operations’ Dan Hayes serves as technical director. PCC dance instructor Diana LoVerso will choreograph the shows and Karl Mansfield will provide musical direction and serve as conductor.

Revisit or visit for the first time the floating crap game of Nathan Detroit. Join the party with chorus girl Adelaide, the high-rolling Sky Masterson, and the doll of "Guys and Dolls," Miss Sarah Brown. Snap those fingers and tap those toes to the classic score by Frank Loesser, which includes "Luck Be a Lady," "A Bushel and a Peck," and "Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat."

Performance dates are Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m., and May 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. The May 16 show will be interpreted for the hearing impaired. All shows are at the Performing Arts Center on the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.

Ticket prices are $5 for students and seniors, and $6 for general admission. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 3 at the Sylvania Campus Bookstore and are available at the Performing Arts Center box office. They can also be purchased on the night of each performance. Reservations can be made by calling 977-4949.

For information on the show, call Sue Parks-Hilden at 977-4323.
