PCC Rock Creek Gallery Exhibit to Offer Model Art

Photos and Story by

ROCK CREEK — "Artists’ Models as Artists," is a two- and three-dimensional figurative art display by models who have appeared in works of art by other artists. It is currently being shown through March 10 at the Rock Creek Gallery on Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus. The exhibition features paintings, drawings, photography and mixed media works by the models-turned-artists. The artists represented include Carol Beckermann, Susan MacDonald, Kate Bronwyn, Jeff Burke, Fred James, Michele Trames, Monika Lundy and Heywood Spurgin.

The idea was conceived and curated by Mark Andres, an instructor of drawing and painting at PCC and the Pacific Northwest College of Art. In his essay that accompanies the exhibition, Andres writes: "When models become artists, the gaze reverses direction and some essential imbalance, which has been in place for centuries, gets shifted. The artists’ model has a point of view, and what better way to acknowledge that than by an exhibit of artwork by models?"

The Rock Creek Gallery is located in Building 3 on the Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The gallery’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on the exhibit, contact Andres at 503-244-6111, ext. 3957.
