Professional Skills Development Series Set

PORTLAND – A six-part professional skills development series offered this fall by Portland Community College will focus on topics ranging from self-esteem to investment opportunities. The non-credit series will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Thursdays, Oct. 5 through Nov. 9, at the Multnomah County Library, 801 S.W. 10th Ave. Sessions are free. The series begins Oct. 5 with The Courage to Confront. Instructor Carolyn Waterfall will discuss the importance of expressing thoughts and feelings in a constructive way. The series continues Oct. 12 with Power for Gentle People. Participants will learn how to speak up for themselves, draw out gentle people, and handle confrontation. The instructor is Kathy Edwards. Rob Soloman will lead the third session in the series, Self-Esteem in the Workplace, on Oct. 19. Topics include ways to enhance self-esteem and the connection between self-esteem, personal choices, and the willingness to take risks. The series continues Oct. 26 with Creating the Life You Want. Instructor Pamela Brown will focus on obtaining personal and professional goals. Personality Styles at Work is the topic of the fourth session, set for Nov. 2. Participants will use the Myers-Briggs personality typing system to understand why people react and behave in certain ways. Instructor Ellie Montgomery will offer effective tools to work with different personalities. The series concludes Nov. 9 with 10 Great Things to do With Your Money.
