Photos and Story by

HILLSBORO – The form is easy to learn and practice, combining many styles into one, and Portland Community College will offer a class to help students find their part of the Qi Gong flow. In the non-credit class Essence Qi Gong, students will learn that the mind becomes quiet following the flow of Qi, a form of standing meditation from China. It cultivates relaxation and awareness of sensation through body twists and concentration, and students will be given a step-by-step handout with instructions of movement. Instructor Holly Ann Alswel is certified in this interesting art of relaxation and a licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist as well as a co-author of a book on Qi Gong. The fee for Essence of Qi Gong is $30. The class will run every Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., starting Monday, Sept. 25 and ending Nov. 27. The course will be offered at the Hillsboro Grange, located at 245 S.E. 3rd Ave. For more information about this class, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2919.
