Western Civilization, Economics Courses Offered in Columbia County

ST. HELENS – Ancient civilizations and religions will be explored in a history course being offered this fall by Portland Community College. Western Civilization: Ancient World to 1200, will meet from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 25 through Dec. 11, in room B52 at St. Helens High School, 2375 Gable Road. Cost for the three-credit course is $127.50. The course will cover the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome. HELENS – Economics around the world will be the focus of an introductory economics course being offered this fall by Portland Community College.Principles of Economics: Intro, Institutions and Philosophies, will meet from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 28 through Dec. 14, in room B56 at St. Helens High School, 2375 Gable Road. Cost for the three-credit course is $127.50. The course will focus on concepts involving scarcity and choice, the evolution of economic thought, the development of the industrial market system, international trade, the World Trade Organization, and the structure of both small and large businesses.
