PCC Announces New College Degree Program in Columbia County

ST. HELENS – PCC announces an extended program of course offerings in Columbia County, which will make it easier for residents to obtain a two-year Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree. The AAOT degree guarantees graduates junior status at any Oregon university and at most private four-year colleges and universities. The new program, the PCC Columbia County College Transfer Program, will combine college credit classes in St. Helens with distance education classes accessible from home and selected courses at the Rock Creek Campus. "We think this will help Columbia County residents plan their coursework and also keep the campus commute to a minimum," said Bill Christopher, executive dean of the Rock Creek Campus, who worked with a Columbia County citizen-advisory group to put together the new program. The program is set up to give students the opportunity to plan their academic experience around home, family and work responsibilities.The college is hosting an open house to celebrate the kick off of the new program on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the PCC St. Helens Center, 1510 St. Helens Street. Two orientation sessions will also be offered: Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the PCC St. Helens Center. Advisors recommend students who have already started college to bring a copy of their transcript for help with planning their remaining classes.
