PCC Veterinary Technology Program Receives two-year Accreditation

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – The Portland Community College Veterinary Technology program has announced that it will continue with full accreditation through Dec. 31, 2002. The accreditation was granted by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities through the American Veterinary Medical Association. PCC’s Veterinary Technology program offers an associate of applied science degree and a minimum of 106 credits through its Rock Creek Campus facility.Veterinary technicians help veterinarians, biological researchers and other scientists in their work. Part of their duties include obtaining and recording patient information, treating and bandaging wounds, cleaning and polishing teeth, collecting blood and fluids, performing laboratory tests, using X-ray equipment, administering anesthetics, educating clients, and administering vaccinations.Most veterinary technicians work in veterinary hospitals and clinics. They find job opportunities in laboratories, research facilities such as Oregon Health Sciences University and the Veterans Hospital, state universities, zoo and wildlife parks, pet stores, animal control, animal welfare shelters, USDA Veterinary Services, private companies producing and marketing pharmaceuticals, and animal production facilities.
