Author of Psychology Textbooks to Visit PCC

PORTLAND, Ore. – David Myers, the author of the psychology 201A, 202A and 203A textbook used by Portland Community College, will be at the Cascade and Sylvania campuses on Wednesday, April 25 for two informative lectures. Myers will speak at noon in room 122 of Terrell Hall on the Cascade Campus, located at 705 N. Killingsworth.Myers then will speak at 3 p.m. in room 107 of the Science Technology Building at the Sylvania Campus, located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. The events are open and free to the public. His presentations will be based on his book, "The American Paradox … Spiritual Hunger in an Age of Plenty."After the presentation he will have dinner with PCC psychology faculty.Myers, a social psychologist with Hope College in Michigan, is also an award-winning researcher (the Gordon Allport Prize for his studies of group influence), an award-winning teacher, and a communicator of psychological science to college students and the general public. His scientific research, supported by National Science Foundation grants and fellowships, has appeared in two dozen periodicals, including Science, American Scientist, American Psychologist, and Psychological Science. Myers has written psychological research for the public through articles in more than two dozen magazines, including Scientific American and Christian Century.
