Students Write and Direct One-Act Plays at PCC

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Portland Community College will present four plays in the 2001 Original Student Written and Directed One Acts at 7:30 p.m. from April 19-21 in the Little Theater on the Sylvania Campus, located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. The students wrote each original one-act play during a class taught by Theresa Love, a part-time developmental writing instructor. The respective authors chosen include Rhonda Bankhead ("Ivory and Arborvitae?) of Tigard, Mary Clark ("Through the Closed Shutters?) of Portland, Sean Miller ("Talks with a Waiter?) of Portland and Jocelyn Weeks ("The Left Hand of Dawn?) of Portland.Also selected to work on these plays were student directors from the Theater Arts program. They include Tamara Leigh Hawkins of Vancouver, Wash., Roni Jonah of Beaverton, Darren Merritt of Lake Oswego and Beth Peterson of Milwaukie. The student directors are responsible not only for the direction of the shows, but they also held auctions, casting events and developed stage designs.Tickets are on sale at the Little Theater box office and can be reached at 503-977-4848. Tickets, which can’t be purchased at the door, are $4 each. Proceeds from this event go to fund the 2002 Original Student Written and Directed One Acts.
