Photos and Story by

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Halloween is right around the corner and Portland Community College’s Rock Creek Campus has just the festival to celebrate the forthcoming holiday. Harvest Festival 2001 is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Rock Creek Campus, located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The festival highlight is that the public will be able to pick out free pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, as long as supply lasts, with the assistance of PCC volunteers. Last summer, PCC staff planted 1,600 mounds for harvest this year. In addition to the free pumpkins, the Harvest Festival 2001 will include hayrides to and from the patch starting at the Washington County Historical Museum, pumpkin painting, photography set-up for people to get pictures of their pumpkins, and contests that will include guessing the weight of a pumpkin for a prize and a free raffle. Other activities at this year’s event will include butter churning and a cider press at the museum, face painting, bread making, a balloon artist, and cartoonist.Entertainment at the Harvest Festival 2001 will feature the Scott Brown Fiddlers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a square dance demonstration from 1 to 2 p.m. and the museum will be open the entire day for festivalgoers.Harvest Festival 2001 will have something for everyone. Bring the kids for the indoor petting zoo at Building 2, or to the museum for storytelling sessions. For people with green thumbs, an Oregon State University master gardener will give advice on how to make your garden the best it can be.
