PCC Lecture Series Covers Basics of Career Change

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Portland Community College will host a ten-week lecture series to help people address issues in finding a new job in the workforce. The non-credit lectures, Career Change Series, will help dislocated workers find a new career path through networking, finding personal support and how to be great in an interview. They will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday between Jan. 10 and March 14 in Room A7 at Whitford Middle School, 7935 S.W. Scholls Ferry Road. Cost is $63 for the entire series, or $11 for each individual lecture.Finding the Hidden Job Market – On Jan. 10, the lecture will look at traditional sources for locating jobs.Introductions and Networking – This topic will be offered Jan. 17-24, and will cover first impression to final acceptance of the job and interviewing.Informational Interviews – On Jan. 31, the do’s and don’ts of informational interviewing will be discussed.Resumes and Cover Letters – Tips on marketing yourself to employers and using resumes and cover letters will be featured on Feb. 7-14.Interviewing Skills – On Feb. 21-28, practice and discussion of 30-second introductions, networking and fear of reaching out to strangers will be the topics.Personal Support – Taking care of yourself during this stressful period and dealing with family and friends will be covered on March 7-14.For more information, call PCC Community Education at 503-533-2707.
