Security Guards Can Get State Certification through PCC

PORTLAND, Ore. – A state mandated unarmed security guard training course will be offered through Portland Community College for winter term 2002. The non-credit course, Security Guard Training, is slated from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 in Room 205 of the Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Ave. A second section will be offered at the same time on Saturdays, March 9 and March 16.At the end of class, successful students will receive a certificate. Cost is $60. Successful students can then apply to the State, which requires an application fee, fingerprinting and background check fee of approximately $120. Instructor Johnny Kai will lead students through topics that include introduction to security, criminal and civil legal issues, human and public relations, communication, patrol, general duties, report writing, fire prevention and emergency situations.
