Paddle Your Way to Adventure with Kayaking Courses

PORTLAND, Ore. – The best seat in a classroom this summer might be in a kayak.PCC will offer non-credit white water, flat water and sea kayaking courses this summer in a variety of settings. The white water class will use a swimming pool for skill building. The flat water and sea kayaking courses will take students to the Tualatin, Willamette and Salmon rivers. Students of all skill levels are welcome in all of the classes.Four sessions of White Water Kayaking will be taught by Dave Wright with the classroom instruction on Monday, June 24 or June 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Lake Oswego Adult Center, 505 G. Ave. The pool sessions will be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays, July 1 through July 29 or July 3 through July 31, at Lake Oswego Senior High School pool, 2501 S.W. Country Club Road. Cost is $104.Beginning Flat Water Kayaking will be offered twice as follows:6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Clackamette Park, McLoughlin Boulevard 99E; and Monday, July 1, at the Tualatin River. 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday, July 14, at Willamette Park at the corner of Macadam and Nebraska streets; and 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 28, at Gilbert River Boat Ramp, Sauvie Island Road. The instructor is Ken BarkerSpecific meeting places will be announced in class. Cost is $48.Beginning Sea Kayaking, also taught by Ken Barker, will be offered four times as follows: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, June 24, at the Tigard Cinema parking lot, 11626 S.W. Pacific Highway. Students will then travel by van to Nehalem Bay. Cost is $73.9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 28, at the Jefferson Street Boat Ramp on the Willamette River, 99E and Jefferson Street in Milwaukie. Cost is $63.8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Tualatin Park and Ride, exit 290 off of I-5. Students will then travel by van to the Salmon River. Cost is $73.9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 14, Wheatland Ferry Boat Ramp on the Willamette River in Salem, Brooklake Road and Wheatland Road.
