Lunch Series Boosts Workplace Performance, Relationships

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Sometimes it’s difficult to wade through water-cooler politics. This fall Portland Community College will offer the tools you need not only to cope with workplace challenges, but also to encourage satisfying work relationships and maximize your professional performance. The non-credit Lake Oswego Lecture Series will present an insightful alternative to spending the lunch hour. It is designed to offer relevant discussions for both individual professionals and complete work teams. Lectures will be held from noon to 1 p.m. every other Wednesday beginning Sept. 25 through Dec. 4 at Nature’s, 17711 Jean Road. Cost is $12 for the series or $5 for an individual lecture. Topics are as follows:Coaching Skills that Build Maximum Performance (Sept. 25). Local author Diana Haskins will present how to transform frustrations into positive interactions through coaching. Learn to inspire and motivate rather than preach and demand.Self Esteem Action Plan (Oct. 9). Speaker Bev Haines will identify "esteem busters"and change your thinking around these issues. Learn to build a plan to improve your own self esteem, and consequently, your personal power.Getting to Real Dialogue (Oct. 23). Speaker Karen Hannan will offer skills for getting to the heart of the matter in a non-threatening way. Learn strategies for initiating and responding when it comes to difficult topics.How to Get an Accurate Picture of Yourself (Nov. 6). Speaker Sher Ireland will examine ways to determine how others perceive you. Quiz yourself on the reactions you get from others and your patterns of conflict while building your own awareness.Social Cues in the Workplace (Nov. 20). Speaker Nancy Huppertz will discuss what to do when jokes go too far, flirting becomes uncomfortable, or religion and political discussions get too heated. Learn subtle clues of boundaries and how to stay attuned to others while responding with tact.The Dalai Lama in the Workplace (Dec. 4). If "Peace is Every Step,"what about every meeting, every phone call?
