Natural Health Treatments, Lifelong Wellness Topic of Lecture Series

PORTLAND, Ore. – Before you reach for another over-the-counter medication, consider the advantages of natural therapy – which often can help you avoid illness in the first place. That’s the message naturopathic doctor Debbie Solochek will present this fall in a non-credit course offered through Portland Community College. Naturopathic Medicine: Naturally Healthy Living will explain how to rely on natural treatments as both a safe alternative to drugs and as a catalyst to a healthy life. The seven-part lecture series will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday, Sept. 30 through Nov. 18, in Room 129 of Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St. Cost is $66 for the full series, or $17 per individual lecture. Topics include the following:Naturopathic Fundamentals (Sept. 30). Hear an overview of naturopathic philosophies, the overall physiology of the body’s systems and how they contribute to the body’s balance.Naturopathic First Aid (Oct. 7). Learn how to build a naturopathic first-aid kit for headaches, stomachaches, cuts and abrasions, burns, strains and sprains. Find out which plants you can use right from your own garden.Food Allergies and Intolerance (Oct. 14). Recognize food allergies and intolerance in your diet and determine which foods can be beneficial to your system. Understand how changes in your diet can help eliminate toxins in your body.Colds, Flues and Respiratory Ailments (Oct. 21). Discover herbs, nutritional supplements, dietary changes and breathing exercises to improve respiratory ailments.Naturally Healthy Heart (Oct. 28). Focus on prevention and treatment of the most common cause of disease and death in the United States. Dr. Solochek will explain the "Diet 7"lifestyle.Naturally Balancing Endocrine System (Nov. 4). Learn how to balance hormonal systems, including thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cotisol DHEA and others. Discover how this balance relates to stress, depression, insomnia, menopause and energy.Naturally Balanced Mood and Tension (Nov. 18).
