Capture Black and White Portraits with PCC Photo Class

Photos and Story by

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Though photography has come a long way since the 1800’s, black-and-white film is still the medium of choice for capturing expressive portraits. Now Portland Community College will present the tricks of this photography genre in an upcoming non-credit class. A Likeness in Black and White, led by instructor John Tharp, will offer a hands-on introduction to the techniques of creating stunning photos. Tharp will cover interplay of light, modern films, convenient photo finishing and how to make digital prints on your computer. Students are asked to bring a 35mm camera and a yellow filter to participate in class projects. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Feb. 15 through March 15, at PCC’s Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $50. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2707.
