PORTLAND, Ore. – For this Portland Community College band, the music is about all that jazz and more. The PCC Jazz Band is a high-energy, 40-member strong group based at the college’s Cascade Campus. The eclectic band is quickly becoming one of the more popular local acts in Portland, wowing audiences at such venues as the NW Car Classic Show at the Expo Center on Sunday, Oct. 27."The organizers raved about our performance and invited us back in 2003,"said band member Ken Stine. "And, organizers of a similar event held in Forest Grove on the campus of Linfield College asked us to play there next summer. The latter has been around for a long time and is one of the most popular events of its type. The band just keeps getting better and better with each outing."To catch the PCC Jazz Band in action, the group will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24 in the theater of the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, located at North Interstate, two blocks South of Killingsworth near the Cascade Campus (705 N. Killingsworth). The band will also make an appearance at the Oregon Zoo Lights Winter Festival at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Elephant Plaza of the Oregon Zoo.The Jazz Band is also creating a waiting list for its CD, due to be completed in the coming weeks.
