LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – Portland Community College will off a non-credit Professional Skills Development Lecture Series from noon to 1 p.m. each Wednesday beginning Jan. 8 through March 19 in the upstairs conference room of Natures Northwest, 17711 S.W. Jean Road. Cost for the full series of six lectures is $12; individual lectures cost $5 each. Topics are as follows:Dream It, Plan It, Do It (Jan. 8). Lose weight, write a book, get a promotion or run a marathon – don’t just dream. Led by business and sports coach Frank Mungeam, this lecture offers strategies to make this the year you reach your goals.Intuition that Works (Jan. 22). Learn to read people better, make decisions with greater certainty and see clearer when transitions and surprises come along. Author Gillian Holloway offers proven exercises that work to sharpen your intuitive skills.Turn Reaction to "Proaction"(Feb. 5). Do you spend your days putting out fires? Learn to look ahead and deal with problems before they erupt into crisis. Speaker Mary Franklin explains using "pivot points"to eliminate energy drains and support your best performance.The Costs and Benefits of Saying No (Feb. 19). If you’re spread too thin, this workshop is for you. Learn to say "no"with grace and confidence. Speaker Richard Kent Matthews helps weigh the pros and cons when saying "no"and how to make your priorities clear without damaging a relationship. Say "yes"when you want to, not because you have to.End Pointless Arguments (March 5). Learn the art of disagreement. Speaker Kim Bishop-Nelson offers tips for agreeing to disagree without compromising your values. Move away from polarized or paralyzed arguments and discover how to make peace with compromises.Mediating Conflict and Moving Forward (March 19). Ever find yourself in between two parties in a conflict?
