Learn to play bluegrass banjo with PCC lessons

PORTLAND, Ore. – Recreate the sounds of your favorite bluegrass artists on the genre’s signature instrument – the banjo. Portland Community College will present a rare opportunity to learn to play this fall in a non-credit class.Bluegrass Banjo: Beginning is a hands-on course designed to get you plucking and strumming quickly. Instructor Jane Keefer will introduce students to the three-finger style of playing the five-string banjo. Instructional materials (for a small fee) will be available, including a CD which students can keep at home to practice with between sessions."Jane is a very accomplished musician,"said Julie Wolleck, PCC Community Education manager. "Not many places in Portland offer banjo lessons, and this is a chance to learn from one of the best talents in the area."The class will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 25 through Nov. 20, in the band room of Mt.
