PORTLAND, Ore. – Tired of not being listened to at work? It’s a problem many people struggle with, especially women who have frequently been taught to avoid coming across as too assertive. Portland Community College has developed a non-credit class to help you communicate effectively from a position of strength.Let’s Talk Business will enhance your professionalism in the workplace. Instructor Kathy Condon will explain the difference in the communication styles of both men and women, and demonstrate specific techniques for getting your point across without coming off as too bossy or overbearing. Not being heard at meetings? Your suggestions are important and this class can help overcome your shyness or abrasive communication style, and position you for greater respect at work."After working with these communication techniques, I sensed that I was expressing my thoughts more effectively during our weekly office meetings,"said a previous student. "I was ecstatic when my boss finally recommended we implement one of my suggestions."The class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Room 211 of the Social Science Building at PCC’s Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Cost is $25.For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-731-6642.
