Photos and Story by

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Portland Community College will host an exhibit by Smith Eliot called, "Transulcence,"which opens Monday, Sept. 22 and runs through Friday, Oct. 24. There will be an artist’s talk and reception at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 29. Smith Eliot’s exhibit introduces a body of photo-based acrylics on hand-textured wooden panels. "’Translucence’ refers both to the physical qualities of the media used and metaphorically to the barely perceptible interference of the flesh as the human being struggles to make sense of the world in which it resides,"says Eliot. "This body of work questions the relationship between perception, sensation and truth and focuses on the interplay of seemingly immaterial qualities such as darkness, light and translucence."Smith Eliot teaches photography at Portland Community College, Clackamas Community College and at PNCA. Her installations and photographic work are shown nationally and locally. The Northview Gallery is located in Room 214 of the CT Building. Northview Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 503-977-8017.
