Physical therapist gets you ?back' to fitness with PCC class

PORTLAND, Ore. – An injured or weak back can prevent simple daily movement, let alone hamper your workout so you can’t burn as many calories as usual. Portland Community College can help you move past your back pain and prepare to exercise freely again with an upcoming non-credit class.Back and Body Fitness features a physical therapist as your instructor. Dr. Neil Bastian will show you to how to move, stretch and exercise correctly so you can improve your overall body strength while protecting against injury. Much less expensive than working out with a personal trainer, the class offers a unique opportunity to achieve greater range of motion and decrease pain under the care of a professional."After learning the specific exercises and doing them consistently, my back pain is almost gone,"said Cecelia Barry, PCC Community Education manager and student of Dr. Bastian. "I feel stronger, am able to exercise more, and have improved flexibility. The class has made a huge difference for me."The six-week class will be held from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 25 through Oct. 30, at the Lake Oswego Adult Center, 505 G Ave. Cost is $49.For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-731-6622.
