TWO ITEMS: Learn designing bouquets, Polynesian dance

PORTLAND, Ore. – What could make a more beautiful table than an abundant floral centerpiece – especially one you personally created? This season, discover the gentle and easy art of floral design with Portland Community College.Fresh Flower Arranging, a non-credit class, will feature several arrangement styles including formal, low centerpiece and contemporary. Instructor Cynthia Mooney will show how you can save money and create designs that match perfectly with your d’cor, taste or style of event. Students will take home their arrangements after each class."I had never tried this before, but the arrangements I made in class looked so professional,"said a past student. "I was amazed at how easy they were, and how beautifully they dressed up my home."The six-week class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 22 through Oct. 27, in Room 109 of PCC’s Southeast Center, 2850 S.E. 82nd Ave. Cost is $59 with an additional flower fee. Portland Community College will offer the entrancing moves of Polynesia with an upcoming non-credit dance class.Polynesian Dance will teach students the traditional and modern dances of Hawaii, the fast hip movements of Tahiti, and the action dances of New Zealand. Instructor Mahina Burke will explain the cultural "story time"that is an integral part of these dances, as well as offer students a rigorous workout."With each two-hour lesson, you will burn as many calories as you would in a gym, and tone your hips, abs and thighs in the process,"said Julie Wolleck, PCC Community Education Manager. "Mahina will teach you to move as gracefully as Hawaiian dancers – and develop their figures too."The 11-week class will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 25 through Dec. 4, in Room 152 of PCC’s Southeast Center, 2850 S.E. 82nd Ave. Cost is $89.
