PCC offers winter slate of fun, non-credit classes in St. Helens

ST. HELENS/SCAPPOOSE, Ore. – When was the last time you tried something for the first time? Portland Community College offers non-credit opportunities in St. Helens to practice a hobby or skill, or learn something new.Fly Tying: Beginning Term I. Instructor Marc Williamson will cover all basic skills needed to tie most flies. No need for tremendous dexterity, rather come discover how to simply manipulate materials into great flyties. The four-week class will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through 27, at Scappoose School District Office, 33589 S.E. High School Way. Cost is $39. Call 503-543-2423 for a materials list. The following classes will be held at St. Helens High School, 2375 Gable Road:Drawing Basic: All Levels St. Helens Class. Students will learn to create what they visualize with observational drawing skills, composition, design, and black & white media. Instructor Willam Crist welcomes all levels to the six-week class, held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through Feb. 10, in Room C60. Cost is $101.50. Spanish Beginning All Levels and Spanish Beginning Term I. Join Lucia Torres for fun, motivating lessons. Both ten-week classes will take place Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through March 9, in Room B56. The Spanish Beginning All Levels class will be held from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Cost is $91.50 with a $3 fee payable to the instructor at the first class. The Spanish Beginning Term I class will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $117.50 with a $3 fee payable to the instructor at the first class.Digital Photography: Beginning – St Helens Class. Instructor Ronald Barnett will teach how to get the most out of your digital camera with in-class hands-on manipulation, PhotoShop software and more. The seven-week class will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 13 through Feb. 24, in Room A1. Cost is $91.50.Beginning Darkroom Photography. Instructor Ronald Barnett will help you create stunning black-and-white photo prints by mastering the magic of the darkroom. With this class, you can quickly develop prints you will want to frame. The nine-week class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 15 through March 11 in Room A1. Cost is $101.50 with an additional fee of $25 payable at the first class to St. Helens High School.
