Write or illustrate your children's book with PCC class

PORTLAND, Ore. – Are you the next J.K. Rowling? Two Portland Community College non-credit classes will give you the real chance to find out by writing or illustrating your own children’s book. Writing Children’s Literature, led by published author David Slater, offers practical guidance for moving your story from idea to paper. Students will be given specific assignments, receive class critiques and discover how to go about approaching publishers. The six-week class will be offered from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 14 through Feb. 18, in the Cedar Room of the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, 505 G Ave. Cost is $69. Bring a favorite children’s book to class.Illustrating Children’s Literature, led by published illustrator Laini Taylor, will take students through the process of illustration, step-by-step. Students will discover how to combine writing, art and getting published. The eight-week class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 12 through March 15, in Room 234 at Wilson High School, 1151 S.W. Vermont St. Cost is $85."Ever since my son was a toddler, I have wanted to write a children’s book,"said Cecelia Barry, PCC Community Education manager. "For me, these classes were a great motivator to complete a project – and each term, the evaluations I receive show students overwhelmingly agree."
