PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).The award was presented to Wing-Kit Chung, associate vice president of finance at PCC. It honors the college for excellence in its comprehensive annual financial reporting. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by government and its management."This award is particularly significant because our reports that were evaluated for this honor were based on an entirely new financial model,"said Randy McEwen, Vice President of Administrative Services. "PCC was the first community college in Oregon, and one of the first in the nation, to implement this new requirement. To have our first comprehensive annual financial report under the new model win this kind of honor is a nearly unbelievable achievement. And to win it with the backdrop of the last three years of external financial turbulence makes it all the more special."The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving 15,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, serving almost 100,000 students at three comprehensive campuses, five workforce training and education centers and more than 200 community locations in the Portland metropolitan area. For more information on this award, contact Wing-Kit Chung at 503-533-2911.
