Become a 'wine snob' in less than three hours

PORTLAND, Ore. – Want to know more than the difference between cabernets and chardonnays? All it takes is three hours. A new non-credit class offered by Portland Community College can educate your palate to the subtleties of wine and even earn you the title of "wine snob." How to be a Wine Snob in Under Three Hours will lead students to sample different types of wine – lightest to darkest, driest to sweetest. Instructors from a local wine shop, The Wine Cellar, will reveal the five steps to experiencing wine. Find out what you do and do not like and develop a knack for choosing the right bottles."What determines the wines we like is partly our physical makeup and partly a question of what kind of taste experiences weve been exposed to," said Ann Carlsmith, PCC Community Education manager. "This class will show how some people have much more sensitive palates than others and can pick up flavors that other people wouldnt even notice."The class will be offered twice this fall: 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, or Tuesday, Oct. 19.
