Explore world cultures up close with PCC lecture series

Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – Open a window in another country and enjoy the view. An evening lecture series offered by Portland Community College will give you the feeling of doing just that by featuring a slate of speakers who have lived and traveled around the globe. World Cultures Up Close, a non-credit lecture series, is designed to give you the chance to meet people familiar with foreign places and hear what life is like in another country. Hear the story of a native Israeli, Tsipora Dimant, who returned home during a difficult period in the country’s history. Meet Ingrid Rose, who travels regularly back to her native country of South Africa where she conducts trainings in diversity and conflict resolution. Learn from Cecelia Barry’s experience as she traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico with NW Medical Teams. Also enjoy presentations on Chile as well as adventure in Australia and New Zealand from well-traveled and interesting people. Lectures are accompanied by slide show presentations. The series of six lectures will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 30 through Nov. 4, at PCC’s Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Ave. Join a single presentation for $9 or sign up for all six for $35. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-731-6642.
