Sewing series explains what patterns don't teach

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ever wonder why your sewing projects never turn out exactly like the pattern? Portland Community College will offer a non-credit sewing series that shows you the secrets you can’t find in patterns, but that turn homemade sewing projects into professional level work. What Patterns Don’t Teach: Series is designed to zero in on the most commonly missed details. Instructor Melissa Marie Brown will teach the 11-week series from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 30 through Dec. 9, at PCC’s Portland Metro Workforce Training Center, 5600 N.E. 42nd Ave. Cost is $164 plus $20 payable to the instructor at the first class. The series features three focuses as follows:" Details I: What Patterns Don’t Teach (Sept. 30 through Oct. 14). Learn variations on waist finishes, hem finishes and zipper insertion." Details II: What Patterns Don’t Teach (Oct. 21 through Nov. 4). Discover new ways to apply elastic, create machine buttonholes and other techniques done by hand." Details III: What Patterns Don’t Teach (Nov. 18 through Dec. 9). Perfect methods for making plackets, inserting godets, sewing bound buttonholes and welt pockets.Registration is limited.
