Medical-oriented sketches on exhibit at Rock Creek

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – The medical illustration sketches of local artist Becky Slemmons will be on exhibit from Nov. 1 to 26 at the Rock Creek Art Gallery, 17705 N.W. Springville Road.Her show, "To describe a heart, begin like this," is an exhibition consisting of sketches of the human anatomy such as organs, bones, muscles and tendons. Slemmons is a painter who specializes in crafting medical illustrations found in textbooks, patient manuals and online journals. On view at the gallery, are the sketches that she makes as preliminaries to these illustrations.There will be an artist’s reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the gallery, located in Room 122 of Building 3. Slemmons, who also shows her paintings at Blackfish Gallery in Portland, is presenting work that is from a large project of 171 illustrations that she recently completed."I was and am still enamored with the appearance of things under our skin, the names of these structures and I am interested in understanding their bodily duties," said Slemmons, who received a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.Rock Creek Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
