Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – You’ve taken acting classes, but do you know how to get a job? A Portland Community College non-credit, online class new this term will let you learn from a working casting director just how to market yourself locally for film and television work. Marketing Tools for Actors will cover training, headshots, resumes, agents, scams, getting on-camera experience, questions to ask (and never ask) a casting director and more. Led by casting director Lana Veenker, the class is designed as an insider’s guide to auditioning successfully. Veenker has auditioned actors at all stages of their careers from beginners to international celebrities. In London, she assisted with the European casting of TNT’s Golden Globe-nominated "Nuremberg" and the Emmy-nominated CBS mini-series, "Jesus." Stateside, she recently helped cast the Steven Seagal feature "The Foreigner" and the TNT mini-series, "Julius Caesar." Held entirely online via the Internet, the six-week class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with the instructor and other students. The class will be offered three times this winter: choose from Jan. 19 through Feb. 25, Feb. 16 through March 25, or March 16 through April 22. Cost is $79.
