PCC-Cascade hosts week of MLK events

CASCADE CAMPUS – Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus, located at 705 N. Killingsworth Street, plans to celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday Jan. 14-21 with a collection of events. All activities are free and open to the public.On Friday, Jan. 14, Debbie Wooten speaks about her inspirational life from 11 a.m. to noon, in Terrell Hall 122. Wooten, who had polio at a young age, grew up in the Chicago projects and has used comedy to turn her life around.The Cascade Black Student Union will take donations of canned food and non-perishable items all week through Friday, Jan. 21 in the Student Center Building.On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Humboldt Dancers will entertain at 11:30 a.m. in the dining hall of the Student Center. These elementary school students will dance and read from selected King speeches. At noon, Leroy Haines from Portland Bible College is set to read Dr. King’s "I have a Dream" speech and discuss aspects of the text.Also, aspiring poets will read their own poetry or works from MLK in an open microphone session at noon on Jan. 19 and 20 in the Student Center dining hall.
