Jam on the electric bass with PCC

Photos and Story by

BEAVERTON, Ore. – It’s the foundation of any rock band. The electric bass sets the chord progression and rhythm that glues tunes together yet it’s also one of the easiest instruments to pick up. A new Portland Community College non-credit class can lead you to jam on your electric bass in no time with lessons beginning this March. Electric Bass: Introduction will teach the fundamentals of playing electric bass. Learn right alternating finger technique, left-hand fretting, the musical alphabet, notes on the fret board, diatonic theory, scales, arpeggios and applying theory to playing music. Even if you’ve always been interested, but have never tried it out, instructor and bassist Sean Foote will lead you to master finger sequences that lay the bass line to many rock band songs. The 10-week class will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, March 31 through June 2, in Room 1565 at the PCC Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $69. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2707.
