PORTLAND, Ore. – They say the best way to understand a culture is through its art. For students of the Italian language, Portland Community College has a unique way to delve into the culture as you improve your skills: watching Italian films. Learn Italian through Film, a non-credit class, will use films to enhance the learning of language, discuss culture and generate thoughtful critiques. Instructor Benedetta Gennaro will show a different contemporary film each week with English subtitles. It’s an opportunity to explore grammatical concepts while stimulating discussion in Italian. The 11-week class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, March 28 through June 6, in Room 105 of the Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center, 5600 N.E. 42nd Ave. Cost is $103; Italian II is a prerequisite for the class. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-978-5205.
