Ride, buy horse with PCC know-how

BEAVERTON, Ore. Horse lovers can make dreams of riding, caring for, or even owning their own horse a reality through Portland Community College beginning this March. Instructor Barbara Gee will lead three new non-credit classes that will let students experience more about horses in a hands-on setting at Fox Hollow Farms, 18218 S.W. Horse Tail Drive in Beaverton. Horseback Riding: Let’s Get Started will begin with the basics by first teaching how to halter, lead and groom a horse. Students will then go on to saddling, bridling and riding lessons. Cost is $149. The three-session class will be offered three times this term as follows: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29; Wednesday, March 30; and Friday, April 1. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 11; Wednesday, April 13; and Friday April 15.6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 9; Wednesday, May 11; and Friday, May 13. Barn Bum is a great class for moms and dads with kids who are wild about horses. Students will learn barn terminology, what tools are needed for caring for a horse and the different styles of riding. The three-session class will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, March 29, April 19, and May 3. Cost is $64.Ready to Buy a Horse can show you how owning your own horse is possible. Learn how to spend your money wisely when buying a horse as well as the dos and don’ts of horse buying, including what to think about before you buy.
