Photos and Story by

HILLSBORO, Ore. – In today’s high-tech, fast paced world, sewing may seem to be a thing of the past; however, buttons still pop off and clothes still tear despite all of our modern conveniences. If you have yet to master the ABC’s of sewing, let this Portland Community College non-credit sewing class guide you through the basics of hemming, mending, sewing buttons and more. Even if you’ve never picked up a needle and thread, Survival Sewing will teach you how to take care of the simple mending tasks that arise in the family. Instructor Linda Griepentrog walks you through each technique; no machine or sewing skills are required. The one-night class will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in Room 127 at Glencoe High School, 2700 N.W. Glencoe Road. Cost is $19. For more information, contact the PCC Community Education Office at 503-533-2708.
